A hosted talk by Dr James Bradfield Moody, the young CSIRO engineer you sometimes see on The New Inventors. We avatars all sit up nice and straight, don't we? We were listening to James's real voice through our computer speakers, but watching his avatar. He spoke about how, in the future, other senses could come into play in our online experience, such as the sense of smell. And also about endless data collection by commercial enterprises, so you could be walking down the street, for example, and as you go past a particular shop, you get a text message saying come on in, we've got a new version of this widget you bought last time! There's a trade-off between all the fun and advantages of the online world on the one hand, and a loss of anonymity on the other.
